What You Need to Know about Linda McMahon, Trump's Nominee for Secretary of Education
Washington (AP) - Linda McMahon was constantly surrounded by Donald Trump, working in his first administration and supporting his presidential campaign. Now he has chosen her as Minister of Education.
Here is a brief overview of McMahon's biography, from business to politics.
McMahon left wrestling for politics.
McMahon is married to Vince McMahon, whose father was a famous wrestling promoter. They followed him into the business and founded their own company, now known as World Wrestling Entertainment, or WWE. It was a real breakthrough in the industry and American culture.
He appeared at Wrestlemania in 2007, when Trump was the star of the reality show "The Apprentice." The billionaire entertainment mogul will play a major role in a carefully prepared scenario confirming that Trump eventually shaved Vince McMahon's hair right in the middle of the ring.
Linda McMahon resigned from her position as WWE executive director and entered politics. She ran for two seats in the Connecticut Senate, but lost to Richard Blumenthal in 2010 and Chris Murphy in 2012.
Shifting her focus, she focused on providing financial support to candidates. After being nominated for the Republican presidential nomination in 2016, McMahon offered 600 million pounds to support Trump's candidacy.
Education was her first career goal
McMahon was a member of the Connecticut State Board of Education from 2009 to 1 year. At that time, she told lawmakers that she was interested in lifelong education and had once planned to become a teacher, but after marriage, this goal faded into the background.
She also served on the board of Directors of Sacred Heart University in Connecticut for many years.
McMahon is considered relatively unknown in the education world, but she has expressed support for charter schools and educational choice.
McMahon was one of Trump's first presidents.
1 month after defeating Hillary Clinton, Trump appointed McMahon as a leader in small business management. The Agency provides loans and disaster relief to businesses and entrepreneurs, and monitors compliance by government officials with contract legislation.
When McMahon was elected, she was praised by Blumenthal and Murphy, two Democrats from Connecticut who defeated her in the Senate election. Blumenthal called her "a person with serious achievements and abilities" and said Murphy was a "talented and experienced businessman."”
Unlike other members of the first Trump administration, McMahon was not overshadowed by scandals and controversies. She often promoted his trade and tax policies.
She continued to support Trump even after she left the administration.
McMahon has not left Trump's orbit. She led America First Action, a super PAC that supported Trump's 2020 re-election campaign. He lost to Democrat Joe Biden, and McMahon continued to champion Trump's agenda and helped create the First American Political institution to prepare for a potential return to the White House.
When Trump ran for president this year, McMahon was co-chairman of his transition team along with Howard Latnick, chief executive of financial services company Cantor Fitzgerald. As part of this role, McMahon supported Trump's plans for the new administration.
When McMahon takes office, perhaps the most important task for her will be to eliminate the agency she hired to oversee. Trump promised to close the Department of Education and return most of its powers to the state. Trump did not explain what actions he would need from Congress to close and eliminate the agency, created by Congress in 1979.
